Are you the same as the job centre?

The Job centre said you would pay for training/courses/qualifications/industry cards etc. Is this true?

A. Unfortunately we don’t fund re-training or pay for qualifications.

Why am I here?

A. The Job-centre hasn’t told meanything. After being on jobseekers benefit for a while you will be referred to us for a period of
20-weeks. We provide extra support on top of what the job centre provides to find you long term employment, and can help you to over-come the obstacles you are facing.

Who are you and what do you do?

A.We are the “stage 1” support provider for the Newport area. Our role is to assess your individual needs and to provide
support and assistance to find you sustainable and long term employment in the sector you wish. We are here to help with everything we can to achieve your goal.

How often do I have to attend?

You are obliged to attend a minimum of once fortnightly over a 20-week duration. This is mandatory and can affect your benefits should you not attend.

The job centre said I can have my appointment right after I sign on, is this true?

A. Whilst we will endeavour to make appointments that are easiest for you, it’s not always possible to book you in around your schedule. We have a large volume of clients and we ask you to be flexible with this.

Is attendance compulsory?

A.Yes.

Do I still have to attend the job centre?

A.Yes – we are an addition to the service that they provide.

Are you the same as the job centre?

A.Not exactly. What we do, is provide extra support on top of what the Job centre provides. Our job brokers work with you on a one to one basis to assess your needs.
